Melissa Lawton has been with Seneca Family of Agencies for over a decade, positively impacting services for youth and families and focusing on creating an inclusive, sustainable workplace. Prior to becoming a therapist, Melissa served as an officer in the US Army and as a manager in transportation and logistics in New York City and the Bay Area. She also trained as a firefighter and EMT and worked in Alameda and Mendocino counties. Melissa joined Seneca as a clinician in the Bay Area in 2012 and worked in several crisis and community-based programs as a clinician and program leader. In 2021, she moved to overseeing the full continuum of Santa Clara County programs. She is currently Seneca’s Chief Program Officer supporting community-based programs in Santa Clara, San Benito, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, Orange, and Riverside Counties. She also supports placement and permanency programs and Kaiser partnerships throughout California. Melissa has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the US Military Academy and a master’s degree in counseling from San Francisco State University. She resides in Oakland, CA, and enjoys riding motorcycles, bicycles, roller skating, and listening to true crime podcasts in her free time.
